18th-Oct-2009 08:42 pm - Works That I Wish Would Progress
tardis, tardis-any-place
I try to avoid reading works-in-progress, because it's so frustrating waiting until they are finished. But in spite of that, I have been sucked in to reading them every now and then, and I keep on accumulating them. So I thought I'd share my frustration (and who, knows, encourage some authors) by giving my current list of works-in-progress that I have started reading and wish the author would update and finish soon.
mostly Harry Potter and Doctor Who )

tardis, tardis-any-place
Someone on my flist was asking for recommendations for Big Finish Doctor Who audios, with emphasis on historicals. Since I can't remember who it was, I thought I'd make a general Big Finish post. Note that I am not at all up to date with my Big Finish listening, so this list is lacking recs for anything past #87.

[info]tardis_bigbang is live! Lots of juicy Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane stories! With art!
Go, read, comment!

I did one of the pieces of cover art for the story "The Centre of the Universe" by Azar.

Half Full
Well, "Necessity" did not win nor run-up in the [info]smith_awards. (sigh) What is worse, the other one I wanted to win in the New Who Gen category ("Psycho Savior, qu'est-ce que c'est?") didn't win or run-up either. (sigh) And even worse, I dislike the one that won ("The Gift of the Mad Guy"). (sigh)

But yay for the winners in Classic Who Gen, Classic Who Het, and New Who Het. 8-)

Edited to Add: I hadn't realized they've revealed the reviews. So now I've read the reviews of Necessity (one negative, two positive) and I'm feeling happier.

Yes, I got one negative review, but since it was along the lines of "I hate AUs, this was a self-indulgent story by someone who didn't like canon" I think I can safely ignore it, because I know I wasn't writing it because I disliked the canon; I just wanted to explore a what-if. Mind you, considering that the people who liked Necessity said "read this if you disliked canon", I suppose the negative reviewer has a point, but it's a point against the existence of the story, rather than its execution, so I still think it can be safely ignored.

I can now also understand why "Psycho Savior" didn't win; it got an amazing number of negative votes, and I can see why those people didn't like it, because they felt it was out of character. Me, I didn't think it was out of character, I thought it was brilliant, but obviously our milages have varied.

My page on RedBubble now has two vaguely Doctor-Who-ish T-shirt designs! Well, I'm quoting the Doctor, anyway.

Jo Grant, not-a-dumb-blonde
I watched this one spread out in bits, so I didn't have the benefit of seeing it as one whole. Mind you, as seems to happen a lot in these adventures, there was a lot of escaping and being recaptured.

14th-Apr-2009 08:22 am - Smith Awards Open
tardis-penguins
The Smith Awards voting is now open! The Smith Awards is a nifty idea; voting is done by anonymous reviews, which means one gets actual reasons to go with the votes, and one ends up with a whole bunch of reviews at the end. Which is cool.

So go and join in!

I've now read a few reaction posts, and thinking a bit about what I thought of it, rather than moment-by-moment reactions.

There are probably more thoughts to be had, but it is way past time for me to go to bed.

I decided to write my reactions as I saw it, but that means that it's incoherent about a third of the time. So I've also decided to add notes (in italics)

I don't remember seeing "Colony in Space" before, though I had fun speculating about what the plot would turn out to be. Yes, it was full of cliches, but it was fun to laugh at them.
