Title: Testing
Universe: Vorkosiverse/Harry Potter
Characters: Miles Vorkosigan, Ivan, Draco Malfoy
Size: 790w
Summary: Draco Malfoy makes an unwise bet.

Written for the 2008 [info]bujold_fic fic fest, for the prompt "Miles and Ivan are students at Hogwarts". I forgot to post it on my website at the time, because I was hoping to get it more polished, but I've given up on that, and decided to post it now anyway.

That was fun! And very Miles.

Of course, we want another story to say what the favour turned out to be...

Thanks!

I have no idea. Really.

Very entertaining, even though I haven't read any Vorkosiverse. Nice to see Malfoy getting undone in that particular manner. I don't suppose there's any chance of a sequel in which Miles collects what he's owed?

Thank you!

No chance of a sequel, really. A one-off was one thing, but if I were to do a sequel, my plotty brain would want to figure out all the implications of having Miles there, but the idea of having to do that just makes me tired.

That makes no sense. You didn't have to do that to write the first one; you could just do the same with the second.

Anyway, you wouldn't need to work it out now. Perhaps on the first Thursday of next July, your brain will present you with a sequel, whole and beautiful.

I think it's partly because I know that Miles is a perfect example of a good Slytherin, that part of me feels duty-bound to write a "not all Slytherins are evil" epic because that was one thing I was really disappointed about in DH, but another part of me groans at the huge amount of work that would require, and I'd rather do something else. It's sort of like I have an opportunity here to redress an injustice, so there's somewhat of a "should" about it, which makes me feel guilty for not doing it. Which is bad. So I'd rather avoid the guilt by avoiding continuing this crossover altogether. Irrational, I know.

You write Miles so well, he would fit right in to Slytherin.

Thank you.

Yes, he would! And he would be a living example of "Slytherins are not automatically evil".

Oh definitely.

Great story and I read it again even though I beta-read it. :-)

And I obviously failed to pick up the apostrophe that shouldn't be in this, sorry.
Would Malfoy take the bait?"

What apostrophe thing?

There's an extra one at the end of this:
Instead, Miles drawled, "Can't you do better than that, Malfoy? But then, you got the brains of a Veela as well as the looks." He gave a theatrical sigh. Would Malfoy take the bait?"

Oh, not an apostrophe, a double-quote mark! No wonder I was confused. Different terminology.

Sorry, I used the wrong word. I'm tired and about to go to bed. :-P
