I enjoyed that. But surely carbon would decrease albedo, not increase it?

The point I was trying to make was that water ice wasn't the only thing that would increase the albedo, and it wasn't supposed to be the carbon, but the tholin, that increased the albedo. I was basing the discussion on the Wikipedia article I link to in the author's notes at the end of the story.

Ah, my fault for not following the link. I've now gone and read it. I'd foolishly assumed that mixing Dr Who and Stargate meant that the science would be technobabble.

I forgot that you're like me and will never use bad science in a story when good science will work every bit as well, if not better!

Well, it's true that the motivation of the person whom I was writing for was that they felt that Stargate was "scientific" and Doctor Who was not... whereas my feeling is that while Stargate might be more scientific sometimes, there are other times they're wading hip-deep in technobabble. So I was rather baffled as to how to tackle the prompt. Except that I adored the idea of the Doctor and Sam Carter talking science to each other (as well as discussing Time Travel), because I know that they're both capable of it - yes, even the Doctor can get his science right sometimes - and that totally geeking out on proper science would be half the fun of it. I then had to figure out what science they would talk about, what kind of conference they would meet at... and so I hit Wikipedia.

Not that I'm allergic to technobabble, but I tend to use it when the action part of the plot requires it, and that wasn't the case here.
