They hadn't checked to see if there were any side-effects. (AU. Set just after "A Day In The Death".)

Thanks to [info]jinxed_wood and [info]cesario for beta-reading.

( fake cut to story )

This story has eaten my brain. I think it's probably one of the most-revised stories I've done.

Yeah, I could use the Teaspoon comments or something, but I'm feeling lazy: I'm logged into LJ :)

RE: Martha being locked up: Reasons why Martha Jones > Everyone. And about bloody time the Doctor knew it. This is an interesting twist. :)

Thanks!
Yes, she needs a "Most sensible person of the year" award. 8-)

I haven't seen Torchwood but I read it most of it (chapter 3's lack of formatting made it too hard) anyway because it was Martha and Martha is indeed awesome. How she get some of the Hand's DNA though, forgive my ignorance?

I love the crack about politicians and the bit about Burroughs travelling in time and basing his stories on real planets. I'll go back to read chapter 3 later. :-)

Thanks for letting me know about the formatting problem! On the preview it looked fine. The formatting should be fixed now, or you can read it on my site rather than on the Teaspoon archive.

I'm wondering if I should make myself a Martha "made of awesome" icon...

It gets explained a little more in chapter 3. And it wasn't quite that she had the same DNA, but that they were checking for a species-match, rather than an exact match.

Thanks!

I mean, don't you think that Burroughs' strange planets would fit right in to the Whoniverse? I added the Burroughs bit after one of my beta-readers said that the Doctor ought to blather on a bit more in the phone conversation, and when I got to "Tom Mulligan is going to Africa" bit, I thought Africa - Lost Cities - Burroughs; just like that. 8-)

Yes, the Who planets and Burroughs' ones do have a similar feel. I like it!

I've read the last bit now. Excellent story, and I do like Martha making the Doctor take a year as a human (even though she isn't any more).

I wonder what she'll do after that though? Travel with him or remain on Earth like Jack as a near-immortal?

I don't know! 8-) I think a lot of it would depend on what happens in that year of travelling.

I've just read this after seeing it nominated for a Children of Time Award (congrats on the nom!).

Very nicely done, and I love Martha's hard bargaining at the end.

8-) I love it when she asserts herself.

Ditto! Especially when she asserts herself with the Doctor. You GO girl! :D

Just found the story through [info]cot_tossed and I'm so glad I did.

It's just brilliant. I loved the whole concept, your great characterisation and the perfect ending.

I normally hate the readers who leave 'RITE MOAR' reviews, but this is the first story in a long while that left me feeling like that and I just couldn't help myself.

Well, I am planning on doing a sequel; I expect I'll put it up as one of my potential stories to vote on for in this year's finish-a-thon; so if it wins that vote, then I'll be working on it then.
