Friendship Ficathon story

Rose-heroics, heroics
Well, it was very close, but I did manage to finish my Friendship Ficathon story, though as you can see, it's after midnight.

The recipient is [info]izhilzha
Request: Doctor Who, with the Ninth Doctor and Rose playing hide-and-seek in the TARDIS.
Title: Incongruity (It was originally called "Hide and Seek", but I'd forgotten that I already have a story called "Hide and Seek" so I renamed it. I actually like the new title better.).

This is actually a sequel to Necessity, but I put a plot synopsis in a separate file for those who don't want to have to read the previous story, but don't mind spoilers.

You know, I'm frankly surprised weird things like that don't happen with the TARDIS architecture more often! And is it wrong of me to say that I really prefer your more mature, more experienced Rose to the one we had in canon in S2? :)

By the way, the stories aren't actually due until tomorrow, aren't they? Of course, I suppose it already is "tomorrow" where you are...

Well, I like her better myself. 8-)

Yes, it's already "tomorrow" here. I figured that I might as well put it up, since I was already up really late and it wasn't as if the story was going to change after I slept.

Oh, my. This is lovely, and intriguing, and exciting. Better than I'd hoped for from that request--you even got the (play?) question mark in. :-D

I really like the way you've written Rose here. Resourceful, though of course not enough to quite outwit the Doctor (I giggled the first time he found her), not easily panicked, clear-thinking and full of determination and patience (and hope, maybe).

Excellent Nine voice, too; I just watched "The Christmas Invasion" and "New Earth," and Ten has a very different mode of speech--I had no problem reverting back to the sound of my beloved Nine.

Thank you; I'm going to be coming back to this one multiple times, I think.

I didn't actually understand what you meant by the "(play?)" bit, but I was trying to think of a reasonable motive for them to be playing hide-and-seek in the first place, and I hit upon Rose getting annoyed at the Doctor and daring him to find her.

Besides the fact that I really enjoy writing this AU Rose, it came to me that the story would work better in the Necessity universe, because (a) the jury-rigged room was already there to be exploited by the plot, and (b) there was more reason and likelihood for Rose to get annoyed at the Doctor for his high-handedness, because she has changed, and he hasn't really had time for that to sink in yet.

Of course, I had to go and check the comments on "Necessity" to see if you'd actually read and liked it, since it wouldn't have been fair to give you, my recipient, a story in a universe you didn't know anything about. But you had, so all was hunky dory. 8-)

Excellent Nine voice, too

Oh good! I didn't have time to go back and rewatch Nine episodes, but I guess re-reading Necessity put me back into Nine mode.

Thank you; I'm going to be coming back to this one multiple times, I think.

Hooray!

Excellent story and very imaginative. I'd love to read more in this universe.

Thank you!
I'd like to write more too, so something more may happen, but I don't know when.

I'd like to see Daisy again too. :-)

Hmmm. But what would they do? One needs a plot.

Well, if you ever get one...

Oh, I really do love this. I love the description of the astronomy room, and Rose not knowing morse code, but still being capable and kick-arse for all that.

I also finally got around to going back and reading necessity, and I find I like it whole heaping bunches. Thank you, thank you.

Thank you!

Judith pointed out that it was expecting a bit much for Rose to know Morse code (the first draft had her knowing it) and I'm glad she did, because I think it does work better that way.

...as your profile asks that a person leave a word if they add you to their F-List.

I'm [info]britgeekgrrl in a fannish skin and, as this LJ of yours seems to be fairly fandom-oriented, I've added you to [info]fangrrl_squees reading list, so I can keep themeatic continuity - I'm putting all my SF/F comms/fandom journals into one place, if that makes sense (and I've already maxed out my filters on my other LJ!). Besides, fangrrl_squee's reading list is MUCH shorter and I'm more likely to actually see your posts and comment on them. :)

I stumbled across you via [info]vilakins and your "Plot Tribble" icons, in case you were wondering. :)

This was very good. I liked the really pleasent places being so creepy.

Oh, very fun. I like how clever and resourceful Rose is here (though the Doctor is enough cleverer to anticipate her), and how efficiently they communicate and work together (the "ACK"s made me giggle). And how even a simple game can't seem to help going a bit wrong for them. Very nice!

Thank you! Yes, I don't get how some people seem to feel that in order to show that someone is clever, you have to make everyone around them look stupid. I wanted to show that Rose could be clever and resourceful, but the Doctor is still cleverer than she is. But also that she was right in that he was making the wrong kind of assumptions about her.

And how even a simple game can't seem to help going a bit wrong for them.
